Copyright notices

Lyrext respects the rights of artists, songwriters, labels and publishers. Song lyrexts play Apple's official preview of a song and link to the full song. File lyrexts are created from audio that people upload, and they promise they have the right to share it. If you own the copyright in something used in a lyrext and didn't allow it, tell us.

Sending a notice

Email TODO@example.com with:

  • Your name, address, phone number and email, and if you act for the owner, who they are.
  • The work you believe is infringed, for example the song and recording.
  • The link to each lyrext you're reporting.
  • When and where you believe the infringement took place, if you know.
  • A statement that you believe in good faith that this use isn't allowed by the owner, its agent, or the law.
  • A statement that the information in your notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the owner or authorized to act for them.
  • Your physical or electronic signature (typing your full name works).

What happens next

  • Notices from anywhere: if a notice is complete, we remove the lyrext, or stop it playing, and tell its creator.
  • Notices under Canada's Copyright Act: we also forward the notice to the creator as the notice-and-notice rules require, tell you once it's forwarded, and keep the required records.
  • Notices under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA): we follow the takedown and counter-notice process below.

Sending a notice you know is false can make you liable for damages. If you're not sure whether something infringes, consider getting advice first.

If your lyrext was removed

If you believe your lyrext was removed by mistake, or that you had the right to use the audio, reply to the email we sent you with a counter-notice. Include your name, address, phone number and email; the link to the lyrext; a statement under penalty of perjury that you believe in good faith it was removed by mistake or misidentification; your agreement to the jurisdiction of the courts where you live (or, outside the US, any court where we may be found) and to accept service from the person who sent the notice; and your signature. We pass it to the person who sent the notice. Unless they tell us within 10 to 14 business days that they've gone to court, we may put the lyrext back.

Repeat infringement

We close the accounts of people who repeatedly upload or create lyrexts that infringe copyright.
